South-Burgher 001: Introduction

[box] Series Description: In the midst of a professional relocation from Pittsburgh, PA to South Florida, I am highlighting successes (and some roadblocks) during this huge life transition. I hope these tips and stories help people in the event they ever decide to make a move in life. [/box]

As many know, I am relocating to South Florida in January, 2015.  Hard at work networking in the geographic area of my home, I wanted to share a recent success regarding a Skype interview with a marketing firm.  How did I land it? Well, it was a mix of updating my profile on the familiar site and an old fashioned mailing.  This image below is the design of an actual postcard that is currently playing two roles in my life.

For one, it is the annual New Years card (started in 2012) that I send to friends, family and business partners or colleagues.  This year, I ordered a few more with the intention to mail to organizations (specifically when applying to marketing or communications roles).  I am not saying everyone should go and get their own graphic designer in life, but knowing one that is fantastic does help.  Also, and I am so passionate about this, the graphic work is contracted which means I pay for the service.  Always consider supporting local small business owners when can do so.

Legit, during the Skype interview, the recruiter showed me the postcard that was handed to her by HER manager with the statement, “Call this guy!”  I am confident of my performance with the interview, but am still utilizing many resources just an upgraded Linked In account, alerts and other forms of connecting with employers.  Excited for what the future holds, taking it one day at a time.

I depart Pittsburgh on January 3, 2015. Join the fun and enter to win an airline gift card. Update: Winner picked – click below to find out!!!

  • FYI: You decide the airline and you DO NOT NEED TO VISIT me.  Just take break in 2015.  You only live once!
