This great community fundraiser took place on November 30, 2012 here in Pittsburgh. YES, I jumped in the 35 degree fahrenheit Ohio River. Great teamwork between UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Special thanks to John Lovelace, who I had to fight in order to jump (not really).
Some General Numbers from the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge: The 2012 Pittsburgh Polar Plunge was an overwhelming success and brought the state-wide fundraising record back to where it belongs…in the City of Champions!
- Super Plunge at PNC Park: 16 people stepped up to plunge 24 times over 24 hours, raising over $80,000 up from 6 super plungers in 2011.
- Friday Night Splash at PNC Park: this first time event had over 200 guests come out to the Hall of Fame Club for a night of fun and splashing! This event raised over $30,000 and more importantly provided us with the perfect vehicle to kick off the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge Weekend in style!
- Pittsburgh Polar Plunge at Heinz Field: the state-wide Polar Plunge champion! Setting state-wide records with over 1,700 plungers and raising over $350,000!
